How to Install an eSIM on Samsung Galaxy
You've just bought your Roamance plan and your Samsung Galaxy is sitting there waiting to be connected? Good news: the whole setup takes under 5 minutes, and you don't need any technical know-how whatsoever.
Just follow the steps below, in order. By the end, your Galaxy will be ready to connect wherever you go.
Is your Samsung Galaxy eSIM compatible?
Before jumping in, a quick check is worth doing. Not every Samsung Galaxy supports eSIM, particularly entry-level models or certain variants sold in Asia.
Compatible models: Galaxy S20 and later, Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip (all generations), Galaxy Note 20, and most recent Galaxy A models (A54, A55, A56 depending on region).
3 quick ways to check:
- In settings: go to Settings > Connections > SIM Card Manager. If you see "Add mobile plan" or "Add eSIM", you're good to go.
- With a secret code: dial *#06# on your keypad. If a 32-digit EID number appears alongside your IMEI, your Galaxy is compatible.
- In system info: Settings > About phone > Status > EID. If an EID is listed, that's your green light.
Worth knowing: Your phone also needs to be unlocked (not tied to a carrier) to accept the Roamance eSIM profile.

Before you start the installation
Three simple requirements that prevent 90% of headaches:
- A stable Wi-Fi connection (downloading the eSIM profile depends on it)
- Your Roamance QR code, received by email after purchasing your plan
- Your Galaxy charged to at least 20%, to avoid any interruption during setup
Travel tip: Install your eSIM before you leave, ideally at home. That way you can test the connection at your own pace, without airport stress.
Step by step: installing your Roamance eSIM on Samsung Galaxy
Step 1: Open SIM Card Manager
On your Galaxy, open the Settings app. Scroll down to Connections, then tap SIM Card Manager.
Step 2: Add your mobile plan
Tap Add mobile plan (or Add eSIM depending on your version of One UI). Your phone will automatically start looking for how to proceed.
Step 3: Scan your QR code
Select Scan a QR code. Your Galaxy's camera opens: frame the QR code from your Roamance confirmation email.
Scan not working? On Galaxy S22 and newer models, you can scan directly from a screenshot of your QR code: open your gallery during the scan step and select the image.
Step 4: Confirm the profile
Your Galaxy picks up the plan details. Give your line a name (for example "Roamance Japan") so you can find it easily later, then confirm.
The eSIM profile downloads in just a few seconds on a decent Wi-Fi connection.
Step 5: Set your data preferences
Once the profile is installed, head back to SIM Card Manager. Under Preferred SIM, set your Roamance eSIM for Mobile data, and leave your regular physical SIM for Calls and SMS.
Important tip: Turn off the "Automatically switch mobile data" option under Connections > Mobile networks. This stops your Galaxy from accidentally switching back to your main SIM and triggering roaming charges.
No QR code or scan not working? Install manually
Some travellers prefer (or need) to enter the details by hand, especially if the camera struggles with the QR code.
In SIM Card Manager > Add mobile plan, select Enter activation code instead. You'll need to fill in:
- The SM-DP+ server address provided by Roamance
- The activation code linked to your plan
Once confirmed, your Galaxy configures everything else automatically. It's just as secure as scanning, and it works even without great lighting or a top-tier camera.
What to do if your eSIM won't connect?
Check your data roaming
Go to Connections > Mobile networks > Data roaming and turn it on if you're abroad. Without that, nothing will connect, even with a perfectly installed profile.
Force a search for the local network
Head to Connections > Mobile networks > Network operators > Search networks. Manually select the strongest network if automatic selection isn't picking anything up.
Restart your phone
A classic move, but it fixes a surprising number of issues. A simple restart often gets the eSIM network connection back on track.
Reset network settings
Last resort: Settings > General management > Reset > Reset network settings. Your installed eSIM profiles are usually kept, but all network preferences go back to zero.
